Sir Russell Coutts won his first regatta in Dunedin at age nine and at 22 won an Olympic gold medal in the Finn class. In addition to an impressive series of international victories, including the Nippon Cup, the Bermuda Cup, and the World Match Racing championships, Russell has won and defended the America’s Cup. Russell is a passionate and inspirational coach and patron with an unparalleled depth of experience and knowledge.

SAFFRON NIXON
Saffron learnt to sail at nine years of age and began coaching at 14, all at Murray’s Bay Sailing Club. As her passion grew, she progressed through a range of boats eventually landing in a 29er. During her time in the 29er she travelled to a couple of World Championships in the Netherlands and California. Saffron’s journey in sailing has now led her to kite-surfing and she is currently learning to foil. She has also recently completed a Bachelor in Sport and Recreation, double majoring in Sport and Exercise Science and Sport Management.

matthew rist
Matthew learnt to sail at age 10 as one of the founding sailors of the Russell Coutts Sailing Foundation. He sailed in the Open Skiff for two years before moving into the ILCA 6 and achieved multiple national podiums over the last three years. Matthew has been coaching since he was 15 and is currently sailing the ILCA 7.
