INTERMEDIATE COURSES
Development Program - O'PEN SKIFF
ABOUT THE COURSES
The Spring 2019 O'pen Skiff Development Program has evolved into two groups, each with slightly different core objectives.  We now have two options available for your sailor at this stage in their sailing development; the O'pen Skiff Social group, and the O'pen Skiff Racer group.

Each of these courses are suitable for those who have successfully completed stages one, two and three in the RCSF LTS Program, and want to further their experience and enjoyment on the water.  This is also the right choice for returning Development Skiff sailors.  The division between the courses however, recognises not all new sailors develop a passion for racing at the same rate - which is totally fine!

Sailors entering this course should provide their own boat and equipment although we will do our best to make available charters to those who are still in the market for their first O'pen Skiff.  Please do remember our charter policy for use outside course sessions, listed under our Ts&Cs, which stipulates a finite number of charter uses in fairness to new sailors coming through.

In certain circumstances, the RCSF may approach and award scholarship(s) to one or more sailor(s) in this course.  This will be on a case-by-case basis and include boat use and course fees for one season.

PREREQUISITES
Entrants typically enter the Development Program - O'pen Skiff following the RCSF Learn to Sail Three program.

Sailors at this stage must also be members of the Manly Sailing Club as they start to show keen interest in club activities with their friends.  There is lot's on so don't miss out!

O'PEN SKIFF SOCIAL

The O'pen Skiff Social group prioritises the important social aspects of sailing, and this group will typically sail in fairer weather with less pressures on your child at this important development stage.  If your sailor is a dolphin chaser or adventurer on the water, this is highly likely the course for them!

This course also operates at the same time as Club Sailing on a Sunday afternoon, so although these sailors won't be taking part in Club Racing, they can feel included in the Club activity and enjoy some down time with their other sailing friends.

COURSE CONTENT (some or all of the following)
  • Adventure sailing and trip planning
  • Team-building
  • Safety at sea
  • Marine conservation
  • Reading and understanding the forecast
  • Developing boat-handling techniques

COST
Standard registration fee - $295
Charter fee - $140 (7 course sessions)
O'PEN SKIFF RACER

The O'pen Skiff Racer is ideal for juniors who have mastered the basic sailing skills and who can't wait to beat their friends around a race course!  It's the right course for sailors aiming at developing the confidence and competence required to improve from an intermediate club level to a regatta race level and these sailors will be aiming for entry into the final squad offered by the RCSF.

Participants in this program will be given guidance to attend pre-selected away from home regattas throughout the season and it's expected that they are supported to attend these events.

DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM - RS FEVA
ABOUT THE COURSE
This is a comprehensive intermediate sailing program targeted at participants who are keen to develop their sailing and in particular, improve their racing repertoire.  It's the right course for sailors aiming at developing the confidence and competence required to improve from an intermediate club level to a regatta race level and some of these sailors may be aiming for selection into the RCSF Performance Squad in the future.

Participants in this program will be given guidance to attend pre-selected away from home regattas throughout the sailing calendar and it is expected that, given we are developing racing skills in this course, they are supported to attend such events.

Although some sailors will develop competitive streaks, there will still be a focus on enjoyment and non-conventional activities and drills, with a key objective being to provide these sailors with the confidence to take part in club racing independently.

Sailors entering this course should provide their own boat and equipment although we will do our best to make available charters to those who are still in the market for their first RS Feva.  Please do remember our charter policy for use outside course sessions, listed under our Ts&Cs, which stipulates a finite number of charter uses in fairness to new sailors coming through.
